Zoé Bernardi I wanna be loved by you

Zoé Bernardi's exhibition "I wanna be loved by you" explores the construction, transmission, and transformation of femininity through images. The exhibition begins with a self-portrait where the artist embodies Marilyn Monroe, initiating a dialogue between the artist's presence and the iconic image. This is juxtaposed with photographs of teenagers, highlighting the early influence of visual representations on self-perception.

The exhibition then delves into various embodiments of femininity, featuring "Hollywood blondes" who were manufactured and often erased by the industry. Bernardi uses photoengravings of these figures, layering images from their youth and old age to create complex portraits that resist their iconic status and reveal individual trajectories. A series titled "Divas" explores femininity as a language, where trans women and transvestites reappropriate stereotypical codes of makeup and artifice as tools for self-creation and reinvention.
