Il Faraone Sommerso

MASSIMODECARLO Pièce Unique presents "Il Faraone Sommerso," a solo exhibition by Xiyao Wang. The exhibition's title is drawn from an aria in Francesco Nicola Fago's eighteenth-century oratorio, recounting the biblical story of Pharaoh's army returning to the sea. Wang states that the title evokes a feeling of "sinking into another layer of time, memory, and consciousness," serving not as an explanation but as a means to open another dimension of perception.

Wang's artistic process begins with a heightened state of perception, a sensitivity to subtle environmental changes like light and temperature, which she then translates into lines, rhythms, and spaces on the canvas. This exhibition continues her exploration of line and movement, but with a more introspective focus. The "submerged" state, as described by the artist, signifies entering a space where boundaries between past and present, nature and human experience, and the conscious and unconscious become less fixed. Each canvas is viewed as a new beginning, carrying accumulated energy and experiences from her evolving practice.
