Viswanadhan

Solo exhibition

Galerie Nathalie Obadia, Brussels, presents a solo exhibition by Indian artist Viswanadhan. This exhibition follows his debut in Paris in 2024 and marks the beginning of his representation by the gallery. Viswanadhan is recognized for his abstract paintings, which explore tantric geometries influenced by his childhood in Kerala. The exhibition features works on paper from 2014-2016, focusing on his use of color, light, and gesture, with red often being a dominant hue, referencing traditional Kerala art forms.

Viswanadhan's artistic practice is rooted in his upbringing within a community of artists and artisans. His work draws from spiritual and geometric influences, combined with his formal training in Western art and his experiences living between India and Europe. He is known for transfiguring sacred motifs like the Shri Yantra into a calligraphic style. His paintings often feature a horizontal structure and vibrant light, achieved through mediums like casein on canvas or handmade paper. Viswanadhan also has a background in filmmaking, with works exploring Indian landscapes and mythology.
