Interval
VHILS: Interval presents a new body of work by Alexandre Farto, known as VHILS, exploring the concept of "Non-Places" as defined by anthropologist Marc Augé. The exhibition focuses on Paris, viewed not as a symbolic entity but as a city experienced through movement and transit. Specifically, the works engage with subways and trains as contemporary non-places, highlighting the intensity of these transitional environments.
The exhibition delves into the fleeting moments experienced within these spaces – intervals of solitude and proximity, routine and chance encounters. These "Parisian moments lived in motion" form the conceptual and emotional core of the project. VHILS, a Portuguese artist, is known for his urban archaeology approach, peeling back layers of material culture to reflect on the impact of urban development and uniformity on global landscapes and identities.
