Almine Rech New York, Upper East Side presents 'Face to the Sun', the second solo exhibition by artist Timothy Curtis. The exhibition features works that explore themes of freedom and happiness, often symbolized by flowers turning towards the sun. Curtis, a self-taught artist, draws inspiration from his native Philadelphia, incorporating elements like stained-glass windows, reminiscent of the city's row houses, and Pennsylvania stoneware.

The exhibition includes paintings, drawings, and stained-glass pieces. A notable work, 'Lost Time', features tally marks representing the artist's decade-long journey in art and his work teaching mural painting to incarcerated individuals. The show also revisits motifs from Curtis's previous exhibition, 'SELF WATERING FLOWERS', connecting his floral imagery to traditions established by artists like Shem Thomas and Andy Warhol. The works demonstrate an evolution in Curtis's artistic expression, with a palpable sense of increasing freedom.
