Journey

This exhibition at Xavier Hufkens St-Georges, Brussels, marks thirty years of collaboration with artist Thomas Houseago. The show features a range of sculptures in bronze, plaster, wood, and other materials, exploring both established and new themes in his work. Highlights include the towering redwood sculpture "Giant Striding Figure (Van Gogh on the Road to Arles)" and "Cosmic Snail (Shell Temple)," an immersive installation designed for solitude and reflection.

The presentation delves into Houseago's engagement with nature, mythology, and the human condition. Works like "Ranch Owl" and "Miraval Owl" explore symbolic avian imagery, while pieces in bronze, brass, and aluminium, often presented on redwood plinths, showcase his distinctive approach to form and material. The exhibition also revisits recurring motifs such as the Minotaur, representing primal fears and self-confrontation, and egg forms, alluding to creation and transformation, alongside new monochrome paintings of skulls that convey themes of impermanence and raw energy.
