Till Death Do Us Part
Sterling Ruby's exhibition TILL DEATH DO US PART, held at Gagosian rue de Castiglione in Paris, features new works including cast bronze sculptures and collages. The exhibition utilizes flowers as both raw material and symbolic elements, drawing inspiration from Ruby's studio garden and time spent in the Eastern Sierras.
Large-scale prints from the GHOSTS series, characterized by deep blue linear marks, cover the gallery walls, with source collages displayed over them. The bronze sculptures, titled Bound Flowers. Couple., depict pairs of flowers in embrace, referencing the symbolism of marriage and wedding portraits. These works, alongside the floral imagery, explore themes of relationship, commitment, and the impermanence of life, echoing seventeenth-century Dutch and Flemish still-life paintings.
