Silent Dark

Vedovi Gallery in Brussels presents "SILENT DARK," a group exhibition exploring the interplay of light and shadow through an achromatic lens. The exhibition features works by Jean Michel Basquiat, Alexander Calder, Bob Carlos Clarke, Dadamaino, Joe Goode, Keith Haring, Mike Kelly, René Magritte, Bruce Nauman, Richard Pettibone, Elizabeth Peyton, Germaine Richier, Sterling Ruby, Wilhelm Sasnal, Tatiana Trouvé, Christopher Wool, and Ossip Zadkine. This survey utilizes painting, drawing, photography, and sculpture to examine how darkness and lightness function as both artistic material and conceptual metaphor, investigating their realization through the body as a territory of conflict.

The exhibition highlights specific works, such as Germaine Richier's bronze "L'Echiquier (petit)" and Mike Kelly's "Tree Spirits (from the Parasite Lily)" which address themes of trauma and destruction. Ossip Zadkine's "Hercules and the Hydra" and Jean Michel Basquiat's "Untitled" drawing are presented as parables for real-world conflict and gestures of protest. Other featured artists like Sterling Ruby, Christopher Wool, and Richard Pettibone explore urban languages, mark-making, and reinterpretations of canonical works, demonstrating how luminosity emerges from shadow.
