Flyways
The exhibition "Flyways" by Sheida Soleimani at Harlan Levey Projects, Brussels, explores themes of migration and exile through personal and familial narratives. The show features photomontages from the "Ghostwriter" series, which recount the artist's parents' escape from Iran following the 1979 revolution. These works incorporate drawings by Soleimani's mother and revolutionary graphics from her father, creating dreamlike compositions.
Soleimani also integrates her experience with wildlife rehabilitation, running a clinic in Rhode Island. Injured birds, subjects with their own stories of displacement, appear in the works. A new video, "Wave," illustrates the connection between her artistic practice and animal care, featuring the artist and her family interacting with wildlife and reciting a Persian proverb about resilience and the refusal to rest.
