Solo show
Galerie Perrotin presents the first solo exhibition of French artist Serena Carone in its Marais space, on view from June 5 to June 18, 2026. Through enameled faience sculptures featuring striking trompe-l’œil effects, Carone blurs the boundaries between reality and illusion. Her poetic yet unsettling work transforms everyday objects, animals, and domestic mishaps into captivating visual deceptions, challenging viewers' perceptions and moving effortlessly from the trivial to the metaphysical.
Carone’s practice is rooted in a history of playful subversion, evolving from secretly painting fake postal stamps to crafting three-dimensional objects from branded packaging. In mastering ceramics—a notoriously difficult medium—she actively engages with the historical Paragone debate regarding the rival realism of painting and sculpture. Infusing her work with Duchampian humor, she manipulates clay to convincingly mimic textures like metal, paper, fur, or open flames. Ultimately, the exhibition invites viewers into a kingdom of false appearances, compelling them to question the material truth of what they see.
