Les Disparus Collection

Les Disparus Collection, on view from November 6, 2025, to January 10, 2026, at Christian Berst, Paris, features works by Sébastien Lifshitz. The exhibition explores Lifshitz's collection of amateur photographs that have been altered, often by obscuring or removing the subjects. These manipulations, whether intentional or accidental, create a sense of strangeness and invite imaginative narratives about the reasons behind the erasure of individuals from images.

Lifshitz, a filmmaker and curator known for works such as "Adolescentes" and "Petite Fille," also curates photography exhibitions. His interest in vernacular photography stems from a fascination with the inherent mystery of absence within these found images, which he considers valuable traces even when damaged or rendered illegible.
