Le café sur la plage
Huberty & Breyne Paris Matignon presents "Le café sur la plage" (The cafe on the beach), an exhibition of works by Régis Franc. The exhibition showcases the original ink on tracing paper drawings for the comic strip that was serialized in the daily newspaper Le Matin de Paris from March 1977 to September 1980.
The narrative unfolds at a seaside establishment, introducing characters such as the owner Léon Bouchot, his wife Solange, a novelist, and a film producer. Franc's approach is characterized by digression and a sense of suspended time, where lightness serves as a vehicle for reflection. The characters' dialogues are imbued with gentleness, humor, nostalgia, and lucidity, exploring human nature's contradictions and fragile conditions. The exhibition highlights Franc's innovative storytelling techniques in comics, including breaking the fourth wall and fluid transitions between time and place.
