Éclats
Philippe Cognée presents Éclats at Templon Brussels, an exhibition exploring architecture as a metaphor for the human condition. Following recent museum shows, Cognée returns to a central theme in his oeuvre, examining the fragility of existence through built structures. The exhibition features three distinct series of works.
The first ensemble comprises 32 charcoal and acrylic drawings on paper, depicting abstract architectural forms that evoke carcasses and grids, with a tension between the harshness of charcoal and the fluidity of acrylic. The "Traverser la ville" series uses oil on wood to create hieroglyphic, silhouette-like images of cities, reduced to ghostly forms. Finally, encaustic paintings continue Cognée's exploration of blurred pigments and vibrant textures, elevating architecture to a memento mori, a reflection on time's passage and impermanence.
