Three Nymphéas

Oliver Beer

Almine Rech Shanghai presents 'Three Nymphéas', the third solo exhibition by Oliver Beer, running from November 12, 2025, to January 10, 2026. The exhibition draws a parallel between observing distant starlight and experiencing Beer's work, suggesting a form of time travel through art. Beer's unique technique aims to evoke the pond at Giverny, which inspired Claude Monet over a century ago, creating an auditory and visual resonance for contemporary viewers.

This exhibition is a continuation of Beer's dialogue with Monet, initiated by a 2023 commission. His 'Resonance Paintings' series, developed over more than a decade, uses sound as a creative tool. For 'Three Nymphéas', Beer immersed himself in Monet's world, using underwater recordings and other methods to establish an auditory connection with the Giverny pond. The resulting works, such as the 2024 triptych 'Resonance Paintings – Nymphéas', involve pigments on canvas reacting to sounds emitted from speakers, blending natural chaos with artistic order.
