Le Corps Transfiguré
The exhibition "Michel Journiac, Le corps transfiguré" (The Transfigured Body) coincides with the release of a new monograph on the French body art pioneer. The exhibition and book explore Journiac's relationship with the sacred, examining his use of blood as a material from his early paintings (1957-1958) through "Messe pour un corps" (1969-1975) and concluding with his "Rituel de transmutation" series (1993-1995).
This series, dedicated to victims of HIV/AIDS, represents the artist's journey to transfigure reality and reinvent the connection between the body and the sacred. The title signifies his aim to unite people through a politics of friendship, transforming the real into something new.
