The Glass Dream Game
The Glass Dream Game, the first solo exhibition by Æmen Ededéen with Maruani Mercier Brussels, features works that explore dream-like imagery through layered and scraped pigment. The exhibition title references Hermann Hesse's "The Glass Bead Game" and draws inspiration from Jungian thought and psychoanalysis. Ededéen's process involves a chance selection of six books, influenced by the I Ching, from which he creates "Dreams" that then inform his paintings, or "Visions."
These works integrate diverse references from art history, philosophy, religion, and science, presenting singular visions that hover between the subjective and universal. Ededéen describes his practice as an "ongoing collaboration" with his unconscious, aiming to integrate art and daily life into a unified experience. The exhibition includes pieces like "The Koan is in the Stomach, the Demand is Inconvenient" and "The Garden is Trembling but the Dreamer is Still," which explore themes of human connection, knowledge, and the artist's personal experiences.
