ALTERATION, For a long time in Time
Galerie Chantal Crousel, Paris, presents "ALTERATION, For a long time in Time" (Longtemps dans le Temps), an exhibition by Melik Ohanian featuring recent and previously unseen works. Ohanian views an exhibition as a manifestation of Time, a space where relationships between space and temporality are explored. The exhibition centers on the first mono-screen presentation of the film BORDERLAND (2017-2024), an extensive work filmed in New York. Initially presented in 2017 as a four-screen installation, BORDERLAND has since evolved through fourteen acts, taking various forms including film, performance, and writing.
Two new series complement the film. "Chronographies" includes "Tomorrow Was" (2016-2024), where Ohanian reworks his photographic practice to emphasize temporal depth over classical spatial perspective, creating images with an unstable dimension. The second series, "Interval of Viewing" (2025), developed during a residency in Illiers-Combray, draws inspiration from Marcel Proust's "À la recherche du temps perdu." Using his father's photographic equipment, Ohanian explores the concept of "seeing again" through layered images that condense past, present, and perception.
