Rétrospective

Huberty & Breyne Brussels presents "Rétrospective," a non-commercial exhibition dedicated to the work of Maurice Tillieux, running from May 22 to July 18, 2026. The exhibition features approximately one hundred original artworks drawn from the artist's family and private collections, offering a rare insight into the oeuvre of a significant figure in Franco-Belgian comic strip history. Tillieux, a writer and artist born in 1921, is recognized for his distinctive style, characterized by a strong sense of rhythm, lively dialogue, and masterful staging.

The exhibition highlights Tillieux's versatility, showcasing his creation of iconic series such as Félix and the highly successful Gil Jourdan from the Spirou journal, as well as the more humorous César et Ernestine. The display is organized around his major series, supplemented by drawings and illustrations that demonstrate the richness and coherence of his artistic output. A catalogue accompanying the exhibition includes an unpublished text by François Walthéry, offering a personal perspective on Tillieux's legacy.
