1752 Photos
Galerie Chantal Crousel, Paris, presents "1752 Photos" by Lydia Ourahmane, running from April 25 to May 28, 2026. The exhibition features images originally stored away, now presented between glass, described as porous, open, and transparent traces of places, textures, and colors. Arranged horizontally like contact sheets, these images, both negatives and positives, are presented as a subtle enigma and solution, forming a plan of life composed of traces.
Ourahmane's work often explores themes of contraband, ideas, stories, and illicit goods, with a focus on her Algerian heritage and its complex relationship with France. The exhibition includes eighty-five liters of earth from Oran, which visitors can walk on, and photographs that reference personal and familial histories, including the process of obtaining French nationality for her father and the creation of gold teeth as a form of remembrance. The exhibition also touches upon the Mediterranean crossing and the concept of beginnings.
