Leonora Carrington

Leonora Carrington's first solo exhibition at Almine Rech Paris, running from September 8 to October 10, 2026, showcases the artist's diverse media, including drawing, painting, sculpture, tapestry, and writing. Organized in collaboration with the Consejo Leonora Carrington and rossogranada, the exhibition explores Carrington's unique artistic universe, which defies biographical interpretation and aesthetic categories. Her work transforms the laws of reality, creating connections between the visible and invisible, human and animal, nature and culture, and dream and matter.

The exhibition highlights art as a process of transmutation, a key aspect of Carrington's oeuvre. Her creations feature beings in constant flux, porous boundaries, and intermingling realms, populated by hybrid creatures and androgynous figures. These metamorphoses are not mere fantasy but an alternative way of understanding the living world through continuities rather than divisions. Carrington's vision is informed by alchemy, mythology, Mesoamerican traditions, tarot, and Eastern spiritualities, converging ancient knowledge with modern intuition. The exhibition includes works like "The Lovers" (1987), "Laberinto" (1991), and "La Naguala" (1975), illustrating her engagement with these themes and her invitation to accept multiple, open-ended realities.
