Laura Henno

Galerie Nathalie Obadia presents a solo exhibition by Laura Henno, featuring photographs from her long-term project "Outremonde" (2017-present). The exhibition includes a new film work, "Dark Thirty," developed in resonance with the series. "Outremonde" documents Henno's immersion in Slab City, a community in the Californian desert living in precarious conditions on the ruins of an abandoned military base.

The photographs explore the lives of Slab City's inhabitants, such as Wiser, who dreams of creating a community garden, and other figures like Zig and Annie. Henno's practice, which has previously focused on marginalized communities in various locations, aims to make visible "plural identities, existences, bodies." Her approach, described as a "documentary fable," captures the resilience and humanity of these individuals against a backdrop of harsh desert realities and the nearby military range.
