The Arcana
EDJI Gallery presents Silhouette Love, the first solo exhibition by Chinese painter Killion Huang. The exhibition features fourteen new paintings exploring themes of intimacy, memory, and queer visibility. Huang's figurative practice draws from his experiences in New York and China, focusing on the people and relationships that shape his life. The works construct emotional spaces where memory, desire, and projection intersect.
Light is a significant element in Huang's compositions, with interiors defined by the interplay of illuminated and shadowed areas, creating a sense of unstable visibility. Recurring motifs like windows and curtains explore the threshold between private and public spaces, and between concealment and exposure. Figures are often depicted with softened or obscured faces, with posture and gesture conveying emotional weight. The paintings resist narrative resolution, remaining suspended between presence and disappearance, and suggesting forms of intimacy that defy fixed definitions.
