Dead End
The exhibition "Dead End" at Galerie Derouillon Haut Marais, Paris, features works by Julian Farade and Hélène Labadie. Labadie's sculptures, described as "little cars," are presented as kneaded and shaped by tactile speed, deforming their material and polishing surfaces to catch light. These pieces, unstuck and off-centered from their bases, evoke a sense of stillness and in-betweenness, reminiscent of cars in road movies, moving from an internal source rather than forward motion.
Julian Farade's paintings, characterized by vivid symbols, are presented alongside Labadie's sculptures. Upon closer examination, Farade's panels reveal a broken and connected uniformity, with figures transferred between them like snapshots. The exhibition explores the concept of "duration and depth" within images, likening the experience to filmmaking and cinematic scenography. Fragments of furniture in the works, with closed blinds, suggest veiled secrets, while Farade's luminous paintings contrast with the nocturnal character of Labadie's sculptures, inviting viewers to "edit" their own visions.
