Dans Ma Robe, Couleur Du Temps

Julia Haumont

Les Filles du Calvaire, Paris, presents "Dans ma robe, couleur du temps" (In my dress, color of time), the first solo exhibition in France by artist Julia Haumont. The exhibition explores the transitional period between childhood and adolescence, focusing on themes of fear, desire, unspoken feelings, and discovery. The ground floor features sculptures of a young female figure engaged in gymnastic poses, evoking a sense of nonchalance and introspection. These figures, presented in various states of stretching or posing, suggest captured moments from a dance class or a private practice, highlighting the collective yet intimate atmosphere of a group of girls.

Upstairs, the exhibition shifts to a more individual focus, beginning with a solitary sculpture of a young woman in a wedding dress, symbolizing the dawning awareness of self, nudity, desire, and external gazes. The torn dress at the knee introduces themes of vulnerability and introspection. This is complemented by a depiction of Arlequin, representing the first male presence, and further works including textile compositions and etchings that explore the multiplicity of identities. The exhibition concludes with pieces that delve into the world of future discoveries and the evolving relationship with the female body during adolescence.
