New Works
Galerie Greta Meert presents TEN, the first solo exhibition in Brussels by American artist Noam Rappaport. The exhibition features a series of recent works that, while sharing a common sensibility, maintain individual presence. The title suggests approximation rather than a fixed count, inviting viewers to observe without the need for definitive interpretation. Rappaport's works emerge from material experimentation and unstructured drawing, often without a preconceived plan. Initial gestures, whether accidental or spontaneous, guide the direction of the pieces, which may resolve quickly or take extended periods to complete.
Contrast is a central principle in the series, with color, material, form, and composition shifting between opposites. Bright passages meet muted tones, hard edges dissolve into softer expanses, and deliberate marks coexist with accidental residue. The artist's frames play a supporting role, enclosing and stabilizing the works while remaining understated yet present. This relationship between the paintings and their frames creates a balance between improvisation and structure, allowing the exhibition to unfold as a meditation on containment and revelation, impulse and care, singularity and cohesion.
