Eveningside
Gregory Crewdson presents Eveningside, his latest series of black-and-white photographs created between 2021 and 2022, at Templon Brussels. This exhibition serves as an extension of his show at the Musée de la Photographie in Charleroi.
Eveningside is the third and final part of a trilogy initiated in 2012. The series features 18 photographs characterized by their precise composition and mysterious twilight atmosphere. Crewdson, known for his large-scale photographic productions, employs elaborate pre-production processes including storyboards, actors, set design, and special effects. The works depict solitary figures in ordinary suburban settings, their narratives remaining ambiguous. The black-and-white palette, enhanced by effects like fog and smoke, evokes classical cinema, film noir, and the realism of Edward Hopper. This series adopts a slightly different format, fostering a more intimate connection with the viewer and exploring sociopolitical themes related to economic decline and ecological concerns.
