Pensées vagabondes
For her first exhibition at Backslash, Paris, the multidisciplinary artist Frédérique Lucien presents "Pensées vagabondes" (Wandering Thoughts), a collection of new works. These pieces extend her research from the 1980s, focusing on the vegetal, mineral, and living realms. The exhibition features ensembles of ceramics, pastels, and cut papers, forming a personal iconography where each work acts as a fragment of a unique visual vocabulary. Lucien continually renews her artistic gesture through new series and motifs, creating recognizable forms that seem to recall a pre-existing language.
The exhibition is conceived as an autonomous form with its own scenography, inviting visitors to wander through a world that balances order and the unexpected, rigour and freedom. It highlights the coherence of Lucien's over forty-year career, which consistently explores the connections between observation, the memory of forms, and plastic invention. Her practice dissects life through various media, revealing a poetic vision of the world.
