Rétrospective

Huberty & Breyne Paris Chapon presents "Rétrospective," an exhibition dedicated to the work of Étienne Davodeau. For over thirty years, Davodeau has created a unique body of work that blends reportage, historical inquiry, intimate narrative, and social fiction. He is recognized as a pioneer of "bd du réel" (comics of reality), with works like "Rural !" (2001) establishing his humanistic and socially engaged approach.

The exhibition showcases original plates and illustrations, highlighting Davodeau's diverse graphic techniques. His precise, recognizable line combines documentary accuracy with narrative expressiveness, developed through meticulous observation and field research. The show explores his varied stylistic choices, from black and white to direct color, and his use of comics as a space for intergenerational and cross-cultural encounters, emphasizing his role as a witness and transmitter of understanding.
