Open Edges

Erik Lindman , Robert Motherwell

Almine Rech Brussels presents 'Open Edges: Erik Lindman & Robert Motherwell', a duo exhibition running from March 11 to April 18, 2026. The show features works by Erik Lindman and Robert Motherwell, alongside two loaned works by Pablo Picasso from the Fundación Almine y Bernard Ruiz-Picasso. These Picasso pieces serve to anchor the exhibition's dialogue in European Modernism, a movement that influenced both Motherwell and subsequently Lindman.

The exhibition explores the shared artistic practice of Lindman and Motherwell, who, despite being born seventy years apart, both utilize found materials to inform their compositional decisions. This approach is traced back to Picasso's pioneering collage technique, which integrated elements of the real world into artwork and redefined the artist's role. The exhibition highlights how both artists draw inspiration from external elements, using them as generative devices for abstract compositions, with Motherwell's 'Open' series and Lindman's 'Blanks' serving as key examples.
