Mémoires de paysages
Nosbaum Reding Gallery, Brussels presents "Mémoires de paysages" (Memories of Landscapes) by Eric Mangen Quiberville, running from May 23 to July 18, 2026. The exhibition features works inspired by the landscapes and skies of Quiberville-sur-Mer in Normandy. Mangen captures the essence of the wind-swept coastline, including cliffs, pebble beaches, and ocean shades, using a visual vocabulary that moves beyond geometric abstraction.
Mangen's artistic process involves a dynamic interplay between restraint and release, creating compositional accidents that are then refined. He dilutes colors and utilizes moist paper and random paint drops to allow the materiality of the paint to unfold. This approach, reminiscent of Action Painting, prioritizes chromatic dynamics and the expressiveness of forms, aiming to reveal the impressions left by the landscape and light, even if it means inverting the horizon line.
