Other Rooms, Works from 1959-2017

Almine Rech Paris Turenne presents "Other Rooms, Works from 1959–2017," an exhibition of American painter Emily Mason (1932–2019). This exhibition, running from January 10 to March 14, 2026, marks the first major monographic presentation of Mason's work in Europe, spanning nearly six decades of her artistic output. Featuring approximately fifty works on canvas, clayboard, and paper, the retrospective offers a comprehensive look at her creative journey from the late 1950s to the late 2010s.

Mason's artistic practice was characterized by continuous experimentation and a refusal to adhere to a singular style. Influenced by her artistic heritage, including her mother Alice Trumbull Mason and contemporaries like Hans Hofmann and Joan Mitchell, Mason explored diverse aesthetic territories. The exhibition highlights her mastery of color, her varied application of paint across different mediums, and her exploration of printmaking, including monotypes and carborundum monoprints. It also features a series of black, white, and gray works from 2016, providing a counterpoint to her more vibrant pieces, showcasing the breadth and dynamic evolution of her oeuvre.
