The exhibition "MATERIAL IS THE KEY" at Wouters Gallery, Brussels, features the work of Elen Braga, Ryo Kinoshita, and Noemi Weber. Their practices explore the concept of the monument not as a fixed form, but as a structure open to reimagining. Through their distinct use of materials—wool for Braga, canvas for Kinoshita, and paint for Weber—each artist engages with material as a living archive, laden with history and narrative. This approach allows them to revisit the past and question inherited systems of value.

Braga's hand-tufted tapestries and Weber's paintings delve into formal and symbolic legacies, often shaped by patriarchal and Western structures. Braga's fragmented textile works depict stylized bodies, while Weber's paintings use color and scale to explore monumental representation and its political implications. Kinoshita, conversely, rethinks the conditions of material appearance by working the canvas from within, creating fragmented motifs that oscillate between figuration and ornament, revealing an underlying tension and instability.
