La Chambre Humaine & Le Sommeil Électronique
La Chambre Humaine & Le Sommeil Électronique, opening June 6, 2026, at Galerie Chantal Crousel, Paris, is the second chapter of Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster's "La Chambre Humaine" project. This exhibition brings together eight artists—Anísio O. Couto, Sarah-Anaïs Desbenoit, Mimosa Echard, Muyeong Kim, Matthew Lutz-Kinoy, Ji-Min Park, Rirkrit Tiravanija, and Leïla Vilmouth—whose works explore shared connections and echoes. The exhibition revisits the concept of the "room" as a biographical and cinematic space, drawing parallels to Gonzalez-Foerster's earlier works like "Nos années 70" (1992). The central element, a circular bed, functions as a site for nocturnal creation, conversation, and sensitive observation, reflecting both historical notions of reception and contemporary digital life.
The exhibition examines the interplay between personal space and broader influences, from 19th-century courtesans' reception beds to modern habits of late-night communication, film viewing, and constant digital presence. The works presented explore themes of desire, surveillance, memory, and vulnerability, juxtaposing biographical elements with cosmic dimensions. Artists engage with diverse media, including painting, sculpture, installation, and photography, creating a subjective and affective panorama that highlights a relational approach to exhibition-making, reminiscent of Gonzalez-Foerster's past projects.
