The Moon Room

David Hockney

Galerie Lelong, Paris presents "The Moon Room", an exhibition of works by David Hockney, running from March 19 to May 7, 2026. The series originated in April 2020 when Hockney, during lockdown in Normandy, was inspired by a vivid full moon visible from his window. This experience, coinciding with his reading of Maupassant's "Clair de lune", prompted him to create a collection of 15 iPad paintings depicting the full moon throughout 2020.

The works capture the moon from various perspectives, including from his garden on Halloween night, and conclude with a piece featuring Christmas decorations. Each painting was printed on paper, mounted on aluminum, and produced in an edition of fifteen numbered and signed copies. This collection was previously exhibited at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Rouen and the Fondation Louis Vuitton.
