La Caresse d’être

Galerie La Forest Divonne Brussels presents "La Caresse d’être", a solo exhibition by Christian Renonciat, marking the 50th anniversary of his first exhibition. The show features approximately thirty recent sculptures crafted from wood, exploring the artist's fascination with everyday objects and textures. Renonciat, who studied philosophy, approaches his work with an Epicurean sensibility, finding joy in simple forms rendered with technical mastery.

The exhibition showcases Renonciat's virtuosity in transforming wood to mimic materials like blankets, tarpaulins, and paper. Works such as "Carton Paysage" and "Grand Froissé" highlight his ability to imbue carved wood with the appearance and implied texture of other substances. Recent pieces include abstract sculptures in the "Sables" series, characterized by smooth curves and surfaces, alongside works finished with striking blue and black lacquers that evoke natural elements like sand dunes and the sea.
