Underground Shanshui

Michel Rein Paris presents "Underground Shanshui," the eleventh solo exhibition by Christian Hidaka. Hidaka's paintings are characterized by a hybrid cultural and temporal scope, drawing from the history of both European and Oriental art. His compositions explore a global consciousness, employing techniques like chiaroscuro and dynamic perspective to create fluid spatial experiences and lifelike representations of alternative realities.

The exhibition delves into themes of fiction and truth, stillness and movement, and the contingent and the absolute. Hidaka's work aims to transmute pigments into beauty, creating immersive experiences that are described as infused with magic, enchanting everyday life and celebrating human imagination. The artist states his paintings are "an expression of our existence, of our separateness and our need for other people and the world," and hopes they are "endlessly mysterious."
