Main-à-dieu

Brent Wadden

Main-à-dieu

Brent Wadden presents "Main-à-Dieu" at Almine Rech Paris, Turenne (Front Space) from October 18 to November 29, 2025. The exhibition title references a nearby fishing village, linking the show to Wadden's return to his Nova Scotian roots. Born in 1979, Wadden's practice is informed by his working-class background and the repetitive labor of fishermen, which he translates to the canvas through weaving.

Wadden's handwoven textiles bridge painting and craft, using the grid of warp and weft to build structures with both order and disruption. His process emphasizes exhausting materials and finding meaning in imperfection, reflecting a DIY ethic and a refusal of waste. The works are characterized by rigorous structures, pared-down palettes, and concentrated motifs, where repetition leads to transformation.
