Les Lieux Que Nous Portons
The exhibition "Les Lieux Que Nous Portons" (The Places We Carry) at Stems Gallery Brussels features works by Ben Arpea. The artist's paintings explore the concept of places as guardians of memory, tinted with emotions and serving as witnesses to pacts. Arpea describes these as "the places we no longer inhabit, the places that continue to inhabit us." These imaginary landscapes also touch upon forgetting, where time erases details, leaving only a raw state.
The works are characterized by superimposed planes, bold forms, and colors that expand meaning, transforming landscapes into signs. Each piece is presented as a fragment that evokes a mystical feeling of shared memories. The exhibition delves into an inner geography, offering a moment of serene appeasement and a feeling of eternity through open horizons. The paintings capture imprecise hours, reminiscent of twilight, with intense suns and reflections in water, evoking desires and shared moments.
