Histoires des oreillers In Focus Presentation
Marian Goodman Gallery presents "Histoires des oreillers," an "In Focus" presentation of selected works by Annette Messager. The exhibition highlights historical and iconic pieces, some of which have rarely been exhibited.
Messager's practice is characterized by a wide range of forms and subjects, spanning the personal, fictional, social, and universal. She frequently employs everyday materials and principles of assemblage, collection, and theatrical display. Her diverse media include construction, documents, language, objects, taxidermy, drawings, photographs, fabric, embroidery, image collections, albums, sculpture, and installation. Messager has explored themes of fairy tales, mythology, and doppelgangers, often drawing inspiration from reminiscence and memory. Her hybrid forms engage with traditions such as the romantic, grotesque, absurd, and phantasmagoric.
