Saytu
The exhibition "Saytu" by Alioune Diagne at Templon Paris Grenier Saint-Lazare presents a new body of work developed over two years of research in Senegal. The exhibition focuses on the preservation, transformation, and transmission of cultural heritage, drawing inspiration from minority communities in the central and southeastern regions of Senegal, including the Bassari, Bédik, Dialonké, and Coniagui.
Diagne's distinctive visual language, characterized by "unconscious signs" assembled into vivid scenes, translates ancestral customs, rituals, masks, dances, and music into painting. The works explore themes of cultural legacy in the context of globalization and social media, with a particular focus on the role of women in transmitting knowledge. The exhibition aims to create future archives of Senegal by documenting personal stories and memories, reflecting on the vulnerability and evolution of global cultural heritage.
