New paintings and works

Gladstone Brussels presents an exhibition of new paintings and works on paper by Brooklyn-based artist Aaron Gilbert. The exhibition, which marks Gilbert's first solo presentation in Belgium, features works that depict scenes from private everyday life while invoking the weight of institutional forces.

Gilbert's paintings set intimate narratives against the iconography of late-stage technocapitalism. His work captures the visual framework of his Brooklyn microcosm and its inhabitants with a specificity that draws from social realism, focusing on the transformative potential of individuals and love as a transcending power amidst a social infrastructure dictated by commodity fetishism.
